When to Replace Your Car Window

When to replace your car window has become an important question for millions of drivers all around the world. The best time to replace your car’s windows is when they are completely damaged. Getting a car window replacement when they are cracked or chipped could cost you more than having them replaced when they are just slightly damaged. Many car owners assume that the price of a car window replacement is the same as the cost of buying a new one. In fact, there are several car window replacement benefits that make replacing your windows more cost-effective than just buying a new one. Here are some of them.

Protect Your Car from Robbers

Replacing car windows helps improve your car’s protection from robbers. When your windows are cracked or chipped, they provide plenty of open space for a would-be thief to enter your car. Putting off the window repair could worsen the damage to your windows in the long run, and you might have to spend more on window replacement repairs in the future. A car window replacement or auto glass repair is a very common problem encountered by millions of drivers across the globe.

When you purchase a brand-new car, the seller usually includes the installation of new door panel glass in the package. However, many people don’t know how to do this properly and end up having to do the installation themselves. If you’ve opted to replace your existing windows, then the process becomes relatively easy. All you have to do is to get a pair of scissors, a razor blade, and a glass repair kit.

Cut the Original Tempered Glass

The first thing you have to do is to cut the original tempered glass from the door panel. Then, take out the old broken glass and put it inside the freezer for about 15 minutes. This will harden the adhesive and sealant used to attach the door panel to the frame. Once the adhesive is hardened, cut it off with the razor blade and clean the surface. Use the glass repair kit to shape the glass pieces into the shape of the frame as well as to color coordinate the new holes.

Next, take out the screw that holds down the new door window on the frame. You can use pliers to do this. Remove the side window that is attached to the firewall and the rear window. These should be replaced with the new ones that were just installed. Secure the frame firmly with the tape and the screws.

Secure The Window

Carefully line the new frame on the car with the previous side windows. Secure them with the screws and put the trim glass on. Match the sizes of the side windows and the rear windows and glue them firmly. Trim the edges carefully as you can use a jigsaw to accomplish this.

The doors and windows must be secured firmly to ensure the integrity of your car’s side window. Using the same technique, attach the side windows to the side windows and rear windows. If it is possible, repair any damaged part using the same cement that was used in the repairs of the window frames. Paint the damaged side windows so that they match the rest of the car. Using the same cement that was used on the frames, screw all the windows on the car securely. Make sure they are properly secured before reinstalling any trim glass.

Involve Your Insurance Company

After completing the repairs, remember to contact your insurance company. Most likely, your insurance company will not pay for a damaged windshield because they consider it as an auto part that can be replaced. However, if it is covered under your homeowner’s insurance, it is worth getting the insurance company involved. If at any time you feel that the window cannot be fixed, by all means, call your insurance company and they should be able to provide you with a replacement or another repair shop for removing the damaged portion of your car window.
